Human Interest Story

Hispanic Chidlren's Education Fund (Casa de Sara)

In 1987, while in Mexico, Lori Santoro came upon a little Mexican girl standing alone. She wore a simple dress and all the markings of poverty. She was only 3 years old and had been left by her family to peddle trinkets from a large plastic bag.

Her name was Sara, and in one heartbreaking close-up glance Lori saw the overwhelming hunger in her dark eyes. The hunger was not just of the stomach, but also of the mind, heart and spirit.

That day, Lori made a vow to someday do something to help the "Saras" of the world.

She has kept that promise. She is now the founder and executive director of The Hispanic Children's Education Fund (Casa de Sara), a non-profit organization named in honor of little Sara. The Hispanic Children's Education Fund provides early education, scholarships and healthcare to Hispanic children throughout the Americas.

The Hispanic Children's Education Fund helps children so that someday they will help themselves and future generations. An all-volunteer staff runs The Hispanic Children's Education Fund in the USA. This makes it possible for virtually every donated penny to get directly to the children and our programs. On behalf of the children, thank you for helping.
