  Funds community-based poverty eradication, environment, indigenous, children's and women's rights, and emergency relief projects, in southern Mexico, Haiti and Central America.

Human Interest Story In GUATEMALA, HONDURAS, MEXICO and HAITI, as well as PERU, NICARAGUA, COSTA RICA and NIGERIA, Rights Action supports community development, emergency relief and human rights projects for the poor, by the poor.

EXAMPLE - HAITI: In response to 2 hurricanes to hit Haiti in 2004 (killing thousands, leaving homeless over 100,000), Rights Action established the "Haiti Emergency Relief Fund that directly funds community-based organizations in Haiti that are providing immediate relief and are re-building communities with a long-term vision of ending the vulnerability of the poor majority.

EXAMPLE - GUATEMALA: The Mayan-Achi people of Rabinal have lived in poverty and marginalization for generations. Their rates of illiteracy, poverty and disease rank among the highest in the Americas. Rights Action is funding:

- a primary school and scholarships for orphaned and poor Mayan-Achi youth;
- a micro-loan fund for widows carrying out productive projects;
- a community legal aid clinic, with a special focus on dealing with domestic violence;
- a community Mayan-Achi museum.

Ending poverty and injustice is not only a question of improving their material life, but also restoring their sense of dignity and control over the personal and community life.
